Steve is out to make a quick buck off someone else. I mean what is his from “his book”, the pages, glue, and paper? GEEZ! Steve sickens me for what hes doing and the fact that this case is happening is a discouragement to everyone across the world.

Either giving away the plot is harmful or not, permission or not. That is the legal issue. And since the movies already do that, the harm is done.

Rule 26 protects against sandbagging. That doesn’t mean that they were sandbagging, but they did dump 900 pages on the defendants at the last minute.

The Lexi-book is not a companion work, but if you want to make that comparison and call it one, then you’ve just invalidated its legality. Why? Because only an author has the right to create or license to be created, companion works.

Rowling might object that the fan’s guide will be strewn with errors or poorly written; but it is hardly the job of copyright to protect us from bad execution. And the fan’s guide might actually be better, or at least different.
